i wish for

Someone once told me –

Be careful what you wish for coz you might get it all…

I wish for it to be true

My wish list…

a smile, mountains, a close friend, a lover for the night, late night conversations, stolen kisses, family trips, red shoes, polka dots, a surprise party, free phone calls, films, rock concert, skinny dipping, rainy night, guitar, hand written letters, fist fights, French tips, contradictions…

Ajit (a.k.a. ‘The Relentless Optimist’) begs to point out:

> a smile,

May you catch it on your boss’s face as he/she/it catches you sneaking in late...

>a close friend,

Oh absolutely, nothing like a sweaty arm draped around your shoulder on a sweaty monsoon night...

>late night conversations,

May you be blessed with wrong numbers at three in the morning...

>family trips,

Nothing like a nephew retching into your lap as he gets car-sick, and you know that the nearest halt is hours away...

>polka dots,

The kind that you find whirling in front of your eyes after banging into a door?

>a surprise party,

On your birthday. Chez vouz. With guess who left to vacuum the carpet the next (hangover-ridden) morning.

free phone calls,

>Yup. People calling up to offer free insurance, free credit cards, free trips if they can take up just five minutes of your time...

>films,

Endless showings of — dare I say it — Jhoom Barabar Jhoom?

>rainy night,

And a flat tyre? On Ring Road with motorists whose snarls cannot be heard over their impatient honking?

>guitar,

You have, obviously, never been exposed to my musical talents. Or the lack thereof...

>hand written letters,

Dear John letters. Mr. Collins epistles. (That last one is a tribute to all of you Austen fans out there, all three of you. Maybe four — but you have to convince me about that!)

>contradictions…

Why did God ensure that the people who have all the cash never seem to be the ones with bills to pay?

...and my wish list:
a book shop for myself
a cottage in the hills
a boat to row
lifetime supply of tropicana guava juice cans
a journey to the balkans
and...
...a lover to grow old together

constant traveller said...

wow mayank...i want all that on my wishlist too!

Ajit said...

Er, Soofi, do you really desire a potted plant of a lover "to grow old"? Wouldn't you prefer a significant other "with whom to grow old"?

Ajit, you are not only genius, you are indigenous!

Ugh! When Soofi begins to get sentimental - or sedimental - I feel like being locked up in a nice padded cell, away from everyone. Hey, Constant Traveller, I think I finally got one more for your list! :-)
